Weekend in Hong Kong- Inspiration Lake

Your weekend may still be going, but ours in winding down. Sunday night here and Kyle and I are headed to a movie, another week ahead of us tomorrow, a short week as it is Chinese New Year and school is closed and Kyle will be off Thursday and Friday.

 A baby model?

Inspiration Lake is a wonderful public park on Lantau Island, a bus ride from our house and just outside the gates of Disney...it is a man made lake with paddle boats, picnic areas, playgrounds and rickshaw rentals.  We had a lot of fun this weekend  and look forward to lot of summer days at Inspiration Lake.

Hoyer went from calling every dog he saw "Chumba" to calling Chumba, "Dog." I think Chumba Dog is glad to get a break from Hoyer... They had a great time together at my parents over Christmas.

The New Year

While most of us have already celebrated the New Year..in Hong Kong and China, the New Year is only just approaching. The Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday and celebration throughout China.  Hoyer is off school, Kyle is off work, the Pea Pie factory is closed and for the only time in during the year, stores close too. Typically the New Year is spent with family, so travel is expensive as everyone is making their way home. We are staying put in Hong Kong.  More to come as the big day approaches....it falls on February 3.
 

HIgh School Babies

Over Christmas I hosted a brunch with all of my adorable high school friends. Husbands and babies were included of course! Miraculously, we got a picture of all of the babies together. We all had boys within the same time. I heard someone say, " Wow, parties at Kathleen's sure have changed..."  The kids had a great time being with each other and we all enjoyed catching up. Hopefully this will become an annual thing.

Flying Home is NOT....

Maybe it is like the description for those in First Class on the Cathay Pacific route from LA to HK, but for me,(in coach) it was more like this...

"Think of your seat as a personal hell. With less personal space than a crowded train at rush hour, your legs will kill after the 8th time you hit your knee right in that little soft spot that hurts so good. Your neighbor will be your best friend, after hours knocking hips and shoulders and mouth breathing together. Hungry? Get ready to enjoy processed food to the max, and just because, we will let you stare at it, after your finished of course, for an extra hour. Then, we will take it with a frown. Movies you've already seen will be available and we will keep the lights on, just to be sure you won't get any sleep. Traveling with a baby? We really don't like you, and well, neither does anyone around you, don't worry, we won't be shy, we will let you know. And don't forget, if there is anything you need, we will be there in 30 minutes or more with a roll of our eyes. Enjoy!"

Friday Night in Abita

Abita Spings is a perfect little Louisiana town. Just a few miles from where I grew up, once famous for it's healing springs, now more so for the delicious brewed beer, like Abita Amber, my favorite beer in the world, and equally on the map for the quaint Abita Springs Opry. Friday night means one thing in Abita...the Opry.


The Abita Springs Opry is a series of music concerts held six times a year and is produced by a nonprofit organization, Abita Opry Inc. The show has the mission of preserving and presenting Louisiana "Roots" music. Our music is played primarily acoustically, in its original form.

Our main thrust is old-time Country, Bluegrass, and traditional Southern Gospel music, but we often present other forms of traditional Louisiana music such as Cajun, Zydeco, Irish, or other types that reflect the many different groups of people who are part of our diverse culture.

Snow Day

The Southern Snow Storm hit us in Alabama. Everything is covered, schools, businesses, even road are closed. While this puts a kink in my plans to go home to New Orleans, I am enjoying being in Alabama with Hoyer and the Benefields. Hoyer is still fast asleep, but I known he will enjoy the snow when wakes up.

I have started hosting trunk shows for my new line. I am thrilled at how well it is going so far. I have even had 4 stores enquire about carrying this line, which is ahead of schedule for me and my business plan, but exciting nonetheless. The Garden Way Cart....

My father is proud of his cart...here is his story behind it....

We got the Garden Way Cart in 1978 when we bought our house at Boley Creek, MS. It was made in Vermont and was shipped in a flat package ready for assembly. Over the years, many photos of Martin, Kathleen, their friends, relatives and various guests were taken in the cart, which we used for hauling toddlers, ice chests, inner tubes and other things down to the creek, for holding guns and ammo at skeet shooting parties, and for almost any other hauling chore you could name.

The cart moved to North Hollow when we sold Boley Creek in the 1990s, and continued to be used for moving a variety of things. It has resided at Bocage since 2005. It has had many new tires and repairs, but is still functional, and able to hold grandsons with no problems.
