Hong Kong here we come

We got our paperwork in order and we are heading out June 10th. Kyle will be working in the HK office by the 16th.
We will be staying in a corporate apartment in Wanchai until we figure out a more permanent place. The apartment is nice and there is a 711 and Outback Steak House on the corner. So, the good news is that we won't starve for fear of eating chicken feet. Another good thing is that we will have more than 600 square feet!
Here is a link to our new place in Hong Kong! http://www.defenwick.com/eng/home.html

In other news...Hoyer just got his own set of luggage and can use chopsticks. Isn't this adorable? (yes, he loves sushi!) At least Hoyer is prepared...

And finally, a bible verse that helps me with this huge move ahead of us...

Joshua 1:7-9, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Stay tuned for more on our great adventure!

Chumba and Hoyer, love at first sight

Chumba (the dog), gave GG (my mom) a professional portrait session, of herself, (the dog) as a Mother's Day gift this May. ( yes, this is a real thing...pet portraits, in a studio!) The session has not yet taken place, so I went ahead and took my own portraits in the mean time. Here is Chumba with Hoyer while we were home in New Orleans. Hoyer took Chumba's bed and it made it his own. (they are a little dark, but hey, I am no professional!)

Hoyer and the McCulloms

We had a blast visiting with Katie and her 3 children. (3 under 3) needless to say Hoyer was in heaven with his sweet friends and all their toys! Ella did not seem to mind all the chaos. Hoyer tought the boys how to eat an apple, skin and all.

Nightmare flight, flight from hell, worst day of my life......

Our great deal of a flight at $49 from New Orleans to Birmingham turned out to be not such a great deal. It was supposed to be an easy and quick flight back home, just under an hour. But, the jam packed flight hit extremely bad weather as soon as we took off. Hoyer got motion sickness. He gets car sick often, we even knew about his seasickness, but never airsickness! Unfortunately the weather continued to get worse as did his sickness and after 3 attempted landings in Birmingham, the flight was diverted to Nashville to refuel and wait out the weather. That additional time in the air did not fare well for Hoyer.
As soon as we landed in Nashville, Hoyer was rushed to Vanderbilt Children's ER. He was treated for severe motion sickness resulting in severe dehydration. After fluids and Zofran and a pop cycle, Hoyer was feeling much better and released. Kyle drove up to Nashville to pick us up. We spent the night in hotel near the hospital and took it easy on the drive home. The Zofran helps so much.

To say the least, it was the scariest day of my life, easily trumping the blue pill incident! We are extremely concerned about future flights, Hong Kong included. I have been doing lots of research and will be taking Hoyer to the doctor to find out more. For now, you can see my ideas below.
The doctor recommends the meds and also to break up the flight if possible. Maybe stay over one night in CA. She believes take off and landing are the worst part, and once we are smooth, hopefully, in the air, he will be fine.

Preggie PoPs- these are suckers for pregnant women suffering from morning sickness. They have lots of flavors, but the Ginger flavor is supposed to help with motion sickness.

BioBands- wrist bands that focus on pressure points in the wrist and can help with nausea. The sell kids sizes and they are adjustable.

No milk before the flight, and lots of hydrating pedialyte.

Zofran medication before and during the flight. This is huge!!!!
We will also have another rx for back up of a heavier drug in gel form, phenergan, but should not have to use it. Luckily Hoyer is big enough to take these meds. He weighs 25 lbs now!

Special vomit bags for children.

A change of clothes for all of us.

Crackers.

A seat by the wing.

Hoyer's carseat, so he will be up higher and able to see out the window.

Do you have any ideas or helpful hints? Please leave a comment if so!
