Adorable Children

These are the two girls of a sweet family new to Hong Kong, just like us. We both moved to Discovery Bay on the same day and although we had only emailed each other (a common friend e-introduced us) we bumped into each on the first day and put 2 and 2 together to figure out our friendship had already begun. It was so nice to put a face with the name and Hoyer has loved playing with these two girls, Carson and Marlo.

Nutella

Nutella is used all over Europe and even here in Hong Kong just like we use peanut butter. Kyle fell in love with it while we lived in London.  For his birthday I made a Nutella Cake. It was simple. I used Nutella in the cake batter and topped the entire cake with Nutella instead of icing.  He loved it. It got me thinking about topping brownies, cookies, ice cream, anything would work. You can find Nutella in the grocery strores in the US, just look! It is delicious.

Happy Birthday Kyle!

Kyle turns 31 today! He is so grown up......not!!!

We are meeting for lunch at a traditional dim sum restaurant. They serve all the dim sum from carts and you pick what you want as they go by. Should be delicious!

AWA

I recently joined the American Women's Association here in Hong Kong. It has been wonderful already, I have a pledge class, if you will, full of diverse women from all over, not just America. We meet every Wednesday for an activity and lunch.

My friends from the American Women's Association! Here we are enjoying foot massages.

Here we are enjoying lunch after touring Hong Kong Park and the Tea Museum.

Here we are on a rainy day at the Chi Lin Nunnery.

Wine tasting!

Another lunch, out in Stanley.

This week I am in charge of organizing our outing, we are headed to an afternoon movie and lunch.

Chinese Cooking with Friends

I was invited by some of my AWA friends to come over to their home and learn how to cook a few Chinese dishes and to learn more about the Chinese culture. It was really interesting, I learned a lot and I think I will be able to cook the dishes on my own! Did you know, in China, putting your elbows and hands on the table is polite?  We had a good time laughing about the Southern table manners I was brought up on and then comparing them to the Chinese manners. Complete opposites.  Great food and great friends!

The Big Buddha

We got to the top and there was a special Kung Fu show going on!
It was hot! So we took a break and headed for some cool drinks and desserts....
Red beans and rice, but for dessert...?
Red bean paste inside

Yumm! Hoyer loved it!

And of course no trip would be complete without a trip to the gift shop!

Back in the backpack and off we go!

he won the battle for the pinwheel....
we were all pooped and headed to the pier at home for live music, drinks and fireworks!
