Watching the Royal Wedding

Spent the evening with friends clinging to every detail of the wedding.











I thought Kate was perfect. It was amazing. I can't wait to watch it again. (Even though it really made me miss London.)

Tuscaloosa

Please keep Alabama, especially Tuscaloosa in your prayers as they recover from the terrible tornado that destroyed homes, businesses and took lives yesterday.

Tuscaloosa is my husband's hometown and his family there is safe and sound. Praise God.

Macau

 We spent part of our Easter holiday in Macau, aka The Las Vegas of Asia...We stuck to family friendly sights and enjoyed the historical aspects of this remarkable spot. Portuguese, Dutch and French influence mixed with generations of Asian influence, make the sights unique to Asia and really enjoyable to see. Just an hour by ferry from central Hong Kong, we started our day bright and early to maximize our time in Macau. 

 Hoyer at Good Friday service, we only stayed for a bit.

Hoyer is growing fast, not as tall as a Panda though!

Hunting for eggs is hard work.

Hoyer enjoyed the egg hunt after church, successfully finding numerous chocolate eggs and eating them on the spot.





He was worn out soon after and found a nice place on daddy's shoulder to come down from that sugar high and take a nap.

Made in China

A well loved toy, this police car lasted for 9 months before the wheels fell off and the insides came out. It's a record for this household.


Nan and Bubba gave it to Hoyer the day we moved to HK.

Made in China, bought in Alabama, died in China. A good life for a good toy!

Accountant in the making?

Hoyer plays with a life size abacus at our nearby playground. Interestingly, but not surprising, you can still buy an abacus at most office supply stores in Hong Kong! I've even found some old ones at antique shops that I would love to have as an accent piece. (Kyle, are you listening?)

The World Just Gets Smaller

One of the blogs I follow is The Southern Blossoms similar to this blog, it follows a family's journey living the ex-pat life in Asia, only they are based in Tokyo, Japan.

But that is not where the similarities end. As I read the blog, I learned that we were both from New Orleans, went to the same school at one point as children, went to the same college, (Hotty Toddy) our moms are both teachers in Mandeville, and we have friends in common. We both have 2 year old boys, who look quite similar and most obviously we are both bloggers living abroad.

In finding all of these similarities, we were able to strike up emails and converse about what a small world it was and even give traveling tips to each other.

Of course when the earthquake struck Japan, The Southern Blossoms were on my mind. They are safe and sound now, but had a rough few weeks trying to figure everything out. The silver lining of the tragedy (for me at least) was that the Southern Blossoms visited Hong Kong last week as they dealt with the serious issues in Japan.

We were able to work it out to meet and we had a lovely visit. Here our our boys playing at the Hong Kong Park.

Living far from home, it is such comfort to find a friend who understands what it means to miss New Orleans, the food, the people, the culture and a friend who knows and appreciates everything Mississippi.

Please keep this precious family in your prayers as well as all of Japan.

Barney and Friends

We went all the way to East Kowloon to see Barney and Friends live on stage.

We stopped for dinner before the show.


Hoyer wanted ice cream for dinner, but we decided on Ruby Tuesdays for some tastes of home.


We arrived at the Expo center and Hoyer was obviously very excited about seeing Barney.


And the show started!


Then we made our way back to Discovery Bay via MTR. Hoyer was in bed and asleep, dreaming of the Space Adventure he had just witnessed by 10 pm. It was a fun night for all.
