My Funny Valentine

Kyle and Hoyer surprised me with a wonderful bottle of perfume. (chocolates and flowers too...)This scent is spectacular, it is what I wore while Kyle and I were dating and married. I ran out of it when we were living in London and bought something different, but I am thrilled to have this scent again. We were both flooded with memories with the first spray, isn't it neat how smells can bring you right back to a specific time and feeling in your life? In addition to smelling great, it sticks, which is important in a stinky town like Hong Kong.

Azaleas

They are in bloom in Hong Kong. Azaleas remind me of Mississippi at Easter. I love the little things that connect me to family and memories of the South while living so far from home.

LENT

Mardi Gras is around the corner and that means Lent is right behind it. Most people outside of Louisiana don't know that Mardi Gras is linked to this religious time for many Christians. Lent starts the day after Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is the last day to get in all the good food before repenting and giving up certain foods and habits for the next 40 days of Lent, hence, "Fat Tuesday."
Typically meat is not eaten on Friday during Lent and most New Orleans restaurants participate and serve delicious seafood specials each Friday. Growing up,our school cafeteria never served meat on Friday during lent. McDonald's even brings back the Fish Filet this time of year, advertising heavily. Fish frys are everywhere too, as are yummy crawfish boils.

This year, my husband and I are going a little farther than meatless Fridays...
We are going to give up meat and dairy for Lent. (seafood and eggs will not count)

Stay tuned to how we get on with this huge commitment. I will post recipes as we go and please tell me if you have a favorite meat free/ dairy free meal you love.

My 2 Boys

Twins in HK

Hoyer and Kyle is Hoyer's tent/ tunnel onto of the bed!

After 5 days off for the CNY, Kyle had to go back to work this morning. Hoyer went through serious Daddy withdrawal as he left, but we are watching the Superbowl now and that seems to be taking his mind off of things. Plus, the "cookie" )aka a pop tart) he is eating for breakfast doesn't hurt!
